Refugees in turkey - Inclusion and education

Turkey – Education and inclusion for refugees

Refugees in turkey - Inclusion and education families
Turkey is home to the largest number of refugees in the world.
1.8 million refugees live below the poverty line.

People with disabilities are particularly disadvantaged.

Turkey remains the country in the world that has taken in the most refugees. As of early December 2019, Turkey was home to 4.1 million refugees and asylum seekers, including over 3.6 million Syrian refugees. Although only a small proportion of them still live in camp shelters, children particularly have limited access to public services, including education and health care.

Nearly 40 percent of Syrian refugee children of school age (approximately 400,000) are not enrolled in school. People with disabilities count as particularly in need of assistance.

The focus of our work

Together with our local Christian partner, we advocate for highly disadvantaged refugee and population groups, such as the ethnically and religiously marginalized and stigmatized Abdal group from Syria. Our expertise lies in the expert support of children with disabilities, overcoming trauma, and strengthening family systems.
